Speeding

Speed is a factor in almost all accidents, even if not the primary cause, it can be a contributory factor and it certainly plays a major part in the resultant casualty severity. Tackling the use of excessive and inappropriate speed is a priority for Scottish Police Forces and for Road Safety Scotland. It has been shown that even slight reductions in average speeds can have a significant reduction in casualty numbers.

Road Safety Scotland works closely with the police in anti-speeding campaigns and supports the four focus days which have become a feature of the ACPOS annual programme of events. Again, this is an issue which the police are addressing all year round, but the focus days are used to highlight the problems caused by speeding and raise awareness to the devastating effects it can have on victims and their families.
