A free CTCS Nursery & Playgroup pack has been developed for nurseries and playgroups in Scotland. The pack is based on the core Club materials extending their use for group situations. It is a complete road safety resource for pre-school children, complementing any work done at home. It also complies fully with the 'Curriculum Framework for Children 3 to 5' in Scotland.
The Guide has been structured around nine road safety themes - these cover the main road safety points to teach 3-5 year olds. It is designed to be both progressive and sequential in terms of the road safety messages and learning abilities of the children.
Each theme contains:
Within the Pack there is also a Curricular Links Guide, showing links to the Curriculum Framework for children 3-5.
The pack also contains a Storybook, Colouring Masters and Templates, Song and Story Tape, CTCS books 1-6, Discussion Posters, Height, Number and Alphabet Chart.
The Latest addition to the pack is Gym Cards which link to physical development and movement within the 3-5 Curriculum Framework. The Gym Cards relate to the 9 themes within the Nursery and Playgroup Pack Guide. In addition there are warm up and cool down cards, sounds tape and traffic snap cards.
Nurseries and Playgroups in Scotland have been provided with parent's cards and stickers which link to the activities within the CTCS Nursery and Playgroup Pack. There are 4 balloon stickers to collect relating to holding hands, stop, seatbelts and safe places to play. When a child has covered one of these topics in the nursery the card is sent home for the parent to sign the relevant section. Once all 4 sections have been signed the child receives a big CTCS sticker for the back and gets to keep the card.
Your local Road Safety Officer will be able to supply each nursery and playgroup in Scotland with a free pack and additional support material.
Pre-Schools in Scotland now have the opportunity to get parents to register their child with the club at the pre-school.
Road Safety Scotland would like to thank the nursery advisers who have helped in the development of this book.
